In 2002, it was published for the Nintendo 64, Xbox, PC and Game Boy Advance.
It was the first game released for the Playstation 2 supporting online play, and the last game ever released on the Nintendo 64.
This game saw the introduction of the revert, a trick that enabled vert combos to be tied together with a manual, by tapping a button when landing in a quarterpipe. This allowed for much longer combos than in the previous two games, wherein landing in a quarterpipe would finish a combo. The game also added hidden combos. These were variations on standard tricks that could either be performed as air or lip tricks. For example, double-tapping the kickflip button would, naturally, make the character perform a double kickflip. This system would later be refined in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
Skaters
Secret skaters
The characters Darth Maul, Wolverine, Kelly Slater, Officer Dick, Private Carrera, Ollie the Magic Bum, Demoness, and Neversoft Eyeball are available as secret skaters in all versions. In the Xbox version, Bones, a skeleton, is unlockable. In the PC port, id Software's Doomguy is a hidden character, accessed with a cheat code from the Doom games. It was added to promote Doom 3, which was still in development at the time.
